The Springfield Museum’s latest exhibit, “Built by the River: Stories from the McKenzie,” at the Springfield Museum.
Springfield is a location whose identity has been shaped by water for millennia. The Kalapuya and later settlers alike all learned to harness the power of the McKenzie. Springfield’s earliest industries, including logging, agriculture, and ferries, all relied upon the McKenzie for success. The McKenzie has also shaped the recreational identity of Springfield and rural east Lane County. The river is renowned worldwide for its fly fishing, and many famous anglers and guides have ventured into its waters. This exhibit will explore these stories, along with many more. There will also be spaces to add your own stories to our collective history of the river, as well as resources for getting involved with protecting these important waters.
The exhibit will run from January 10 to June 27, 2020.
